About the Role

St. Michael’s House provides a comprehensive range of services and supports to men, women, and children with disabilities and their families in 170 locations in the greater Dublin Area. It supports 1,953 people and this has an impact on thousands of family members. St. Michael’s House is a company funded by the Health Service Executive (HSE), TUSLA and the Department of Education and Skills. (Figures from 1st May 2021).

St. Michael’s House supports include; Residential supports and Independent living, Clinical supports, Day supports, Schools, Respite supports and Vocational training services.

Vacancies now exist for Social Care Worker full-time Permanent contracts in Day Services to support individualised services north Dublin Locations include Balbriggan, Baldoyle Edenmore, Coolock, Kilbarrack, Donaghmede Finglas, Glasnevin.

These positions will provide exciting opportunities for the successful candidate to develop their career by providing personal support services for adults with an intellectual disability.

The core values of this service will be person centeredness, community inclusion and active participation with a strong emphasis on quality. Your role will involve supporting and promoting each individual’s independence as well as enhancing their personal capacities.

The successful candidates will assist in supporting individuals to develop and maintain their connections to other people and strengthen links to the local community.

Key duties associated with the role:

  • Support each person to effectively communicate and to ensure they make informed decisions, exercise choice, control and autonomy in their life.
  • Contribute to and monitor outcomes for the person as identified in the personal planning processes.
  • Identify supports and work in partnership with the individual, their family and other supports as outlined within individual plans
  • Have an understanding of creating appropriate Autism specific environments and be aware of and able to work with Positive Behavioural Support Plans.

Requirements

Skills and attributes:

  • Experience and interest in supporting people with intellectual disabilities
  • Good Communication and Team work skills
  • Have good knowledge of HIQA regulations

Essential Criteria for Applicants:

  • Previous experience of supporting individuals presenting with an Intellectual disability
  • Experience of promoting community inclusion and active participation.
  • Experience providing individuals with positive behaviour supports
  • Experience working with families, clinicians and other networks of support
  • Possess excellent communication skills
  • Have experience of implementing positive behaviour support programmes.
  • Have experience of a key working role, focusing on promoting independence and community integration.
  • Experience working directly with people presenting with ASD preferred.
  • Full clean drivers licence and a driver is essential.
  • Eligible to work in Ireland

Essential Qualifications Required:

  • QQI Level 7 Bachelor of Arts in Applied Social Studies (Disability) - Open Training College
  • Level 7 award in Social Care/Studies delivered by TUD, Institute of Technology, DIT or National University of Ireland
  • CORU Registration
