About the Role

Speech and Language Therapist, Clinical Specialist in Sligo, Ireland. Full-time, permanent position with salary €72,119–€83,689 per year. Closing date 18 Sept 2026.

Integrated Healthcare Area Sligo Leitrim is responsible for the delivery of Primary and Community-based Services to meet the needs of local communities. Community healthcare services are a broad range of services, which, are provided outside of the acute hospital system and include Primary Care, Social Care, Mental Health, and Health and Wellbeing Services. These services are delivered through the HSE and its funded agencies to people in local communities, as close as possible to people’s homes.

This is a Clinical Specialist Speech and Language post within Adult Primary Care specialising in Neurology. The Clinical Specialist SLT will join a large and dynamic wider Speech and Language Therapy department encompassing Paediatric and Adult Primary Care, Adult Intellectual Disability, Rehab, Older Persons & ICTOP, CAMHS and the acute Hospital.

Services are delivered in line with the principles of person-centred care, accessibility and intervention as close to home as possible. The Clinical Specialist Speech and Language Therapist post has been developed to strengthen specialist expertise within Adult Primary Care Services in the area of acquired and progressive neurological conditions. The post holder will act as an expert resource in the assessment and management of complex speech, language, communication and swallowing difficulties associated with neurological conditions.

The role will provide specialist clinical leadership and support to the wider Adult Primary Care Speech and Language Therapy team through consultation, joint working, mentoring and clinical guidance. A key focus of the post is the management of highly complex neurological and dysphagia cases within the service. This will support improved patient flow and capacity across the wider service by enabling other team members to focus on less complex caseloads and waiting list management.

The post holder will work collaboratively with acute hospitals, rehabilitation services, residential services, community agencies and other relevant services to support continuity of care and integrated service delivery for adults with neurological conditions within Primary Care.

This post will be located within the Sligo South Donegal Primary Care SLT department covering both the Sligo and Leitrim community healthcare networks. There is currently one permanent whole-time vacancy available. The base for this post will be Markievicz House in Sligo.

A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign for Clinical Specialist SLT Neurology from which current and future, permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration may be filled. This is a full-time post, however consideration will be given to flexible working arrangements.
