Estimate for the Single Public Service Pension Scheme (everyone who joined the public service from 1 January 2013). Accrual: 0.58% of pay up to €58,209 + 1.25% above, per year; lump sum 3.75% of pay per year (2026 rates). Shown in today's money — the scheme uprates each year's accrual by inflation, so your real pension will be higher — and it assumes a level career-average salary. Pre-2013 joiners are on different (final-salary) schemes. Not financial advice; for an exact figure use the official Single Scheme estimator.

Frequently asked questions
- How is the HSE (Single Scheme) pension calculated?
- Each year of service you accrue a pension of 0.58% of your pensionable pay up to €58,209 plus 1.25% of any pay above that, and a tax-free lump sum of 3.75% of pay. Each year's amounts are increased in line with inflation (CPI) and added together to give your pension and lump sum at retirement.
- How much HSE pension will I get?
- As a rough guide, about 40 years of full-time service on an average €50,000 salary gives roughly €11,600 a year plus a €75,000 tax-free lump sum, in today’s money — paid on top of the State Pension (Contributory). Use the calculator above for your own figures.
- Who is in the Single Public Service Pension Scheme?
- Everyone who joined the public service — including the HSE — on or after 1 January 2013. Staff who joined earlier are on the pre-2013 final-salary schemes, which are calculated differently.
- Is the Single Scheme pension on top of the State Pension?
- Yes. The Single Scheme is co-ordinated with the State Pension (Contributory): you receive both. The lower 0.58% accrual band reflects that co-ordination, so your total retirement income is the Single Scheme pension plus the State Pension.
