Leaving the HSE or Moving Payroll Area (HR106): What Happens

Resigning, moving to another public-service employer, or just transferring to a different HSE payroll area? Form HR106 is how your exit or move is processed — and getting it right protects your pay, your pension and your service record.

If you’re leaving the HSE

  • Give notice per your contract — in writing to your line manager.
  • HR106 triggers your final pay: outstanding salary, payment for untaken annual leave, and closure of your payroll record.
  • Your pension doesn’t vanish: benefits are preserved (deferred) for payment at retirement age, and service can transfer if you move elsewhere in the public service — see the pension guide.
  • Keep copies of payslips and get your service record — future public-service employers and pension administrators will ask.

If you’re moving within the HSE

Moving between payroll areas (for example to a post in a different region) also runs through HR106 — your record moves with you and service continuity is preserved, which matters for increments, leave service bands and pension. Check your first payslip in the new area to confirm your point on the scale carried over — the increment calculator shows what it should be.
