Job Overview
The Head of Security Galway University Hospitals role is a senior leadership position responsible for the strategic and operational management of security services across the hospital campus. Reporting to senior management, the post holder will ensure a safe, secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors while maintaining compliance with HSE policies and national standards.
This is a permanent wholetime opportunity within Galway University Hospitals, offering the chance to lead and develop security operations in one of the region’s largest acute hospital settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and oversight of all security operations across Galway University Hospitals.
- Develop and implement security policies, procedures, and risk management strategies.
- Ensure compliance with HSE guidelines, health and safety legislation, and best practice standards.
- Manage and support security personnel, including rostering, performance management, and training.
- Lead incident response planning and coordination, including emergency preparedness.
- Liaise with hospital management, external agencies, and law enforcement where required.
- Monitor security systems and infrastructure, ensuring continuous improvement and operational effectiveness.
- Prepare reports and provide strategic advice to senior leadership on security matters.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Relevant experience in security management within a large, complex organisation.
- Strong leadership and people management capabilities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Knowledge of risk assessment, incident management, and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to work flexibly to meet operational deadlines and service requirements.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Experience within healthcare or public sector settings is desirable.

- Salary aligned to HSE Grade V (0566) pay scale in accordance with Department of Health consolidated salary scales (February 2026 revision).
