Formula
(2 × 8) + 1 = 17 wks

Statutory redundancy only. Payable after at least 2 years' continuous service: 2 weeks' gross pay per year of service, plus 1 further week, with gross weekly pay capped at 600. The statutory lump sum is tax-free. Any amount your employer pays above this (an enhanced or ex-gratia package) is separate and may be taxable. Reckonable service excludes certain absences, so your exact figure can differ. Not legal or financial advice — check the official Redundancy Payment Scheme for your circumstances.

How it works

Statutory redundancy is a legal minimum: 2 weeks' gross pay for every year of reckonable service, plus one further week's pay, using gross weekly pay capped at €600. You qualify after 2 years' continuous service. The lump sum is tax-free. Many employers pay an enhanced package on top of the statutory minimum — that extra amount is negotiated separately and may be taxable, so it is not included here.

Frequently asked questions

How is statutory redundancy calculated in Ireland?
Statutory redundancy is 2 weeks' gross pay for each year of reckonable service, plus 1 further week's pay. Gross weekly pay is capped at €600 for the calculation. For example, 10 years' service works out at (2 × 10) + 1 = 21 weeks' pay.
Who qualifies for statutory redundancy?
You must have at least 2 years (104 weeks) of continuous service with the employer and be aged 16 or over, and your job must be made genuinely redundant. Under two years' service, there is no statutory entitlement.
Is redundancy pay taxed in Ireland?
The statutory redundancy lump sum is completely tax-free. Any additional (enhanced or ex-gratia) amount your employer pays on top may be partly taxable, subject to reliefs such as the Basic Exemption and SCSB — that part is not covered by this calculator.
What is the maximum weekly pay used for redundancy?
Gross weekly pay is capped at €600 per week for the statutory calculation. If you earn more than that, the calculation still uses €600. The cap has been €600 since 2005.
